None of us are immune to times of discouragement. It’s a common poison that quickly weakens our faith in God. It is perhaps Satan’s favourite tool because even mature Christians can easily succumb to its temptation. Well known pastors even admit to struggling with discouragement when their idealism and enthusiasm is not shared by the church leaders and members around them.

The top 3 New Year's Resolutions are to eat healthier, exercise more and lose weight. There is certainly nothing wrong with these resolutions. I have even made them myself.
So what does God have to say about them? Read 1 Timothy 4:8 which says, "Training your body helps you in some ways but serving God helps you in every way by bringi...Read Full Post »

The Bible repeatedly tells us that God is a jealous God. What does this mean? Isn’t jealousy a sin.? So, if God is holy and perfect, how can He be jealous?
There is a righteous jealousy just as there is a righteous anger.
The answer to this conundrum is found by looking at the context of the use of the word in the Bible. When God d...Read Full Post »

I recently read the book, “Jesus Outside The Lines”, which gave me a fresh perspective of Jesus and how he related to the culture of His day that was strongly opposed to His message. Jesus did very well at what I and many Christians today find so very difficult.
Daniel Darling said, “A certain ugliness accompanies the way evangelicals ofte...Read Full Post »

Why are tithing and Christian service hot and sensitive subjects for some people? Was it in the early church? Not that I can see. People gave generously to make sure needs were always met. Today, it seems people want to hoard most of their extra time and money for themselves. I hear some Christians getting offended by any preaching on giving, yet the preaching is straight from ...Read Full Post »

How can Christians be thankful in all circumstances (1 Thess. 5:18)? Is it possible? Does this even make sense? Are we supposed to be grateful for bad news? The death of a relative, the loss of a job, a terminal diagnosis. Surely God does not expect us to smile and boast gratitude for these events in our lives?
No, He doesn’t. God is not mo...Read Full Post »

On the Christian calendar, Easter rates #1 for celebration! But the 20th century finds many of us getting caught up with chocolate bunny rabbits, Easter egg hunts and family reunions. So, plenty of people are only bystanders during the Easter season. They are present at the event but miss the true celebration.
The first bystander of Easter was Simon of Cyrene. Simon was visiting Jerusalem during the...Read Full Post »

Most people believe that discovering their purpose in life starts with themselves. But for the Christian, everything starts with God. If we want to learn our true purpose in this life we need to determine it from God’s perspective, not our own.
According to God, real life is only what’s built on eternity. We were created for an eternal purpose...Read Full Post »

It has been heard time and time again that people are not interested in church because there are too many hypocrites.
Sadly, there are some hypocrites in the church! Even in Jesus’ day there were hypocrites and he rebuked them numerous times (Matthew 6:2, 5, 16; 7:5; 15:7; 22:18; 23:13, 15; 23:23, 25, 27, 29; 24:51; Mark 7:6; Luke 6:42; 12:56; and 13:15).Read Full Post »

I’ve heard non-Christians mistakenly quote the Bible saying, “Money is the root of all evil” and they assume that God thinks wealth is a bad thing. But the Scripture verse actually says that “the love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Tim. 6:10). So, what God doesn’t like is greed and pride.
God has blessed many ...Read Full Post »

What does it mean to be a passionate follower of Jesus? What does it look like? How do we achieve it?
Passion is defined as “a strong and barely controllable emotion”. Passion is intense! There is no half-hearted, wish-y-wash-y-ness about it.
A passionate follower of Jesus is first of all, passionate about Jesus. So, he plans his life and each day around J...Read Full Post »

Agape is one of the many Greek words for love. Agape is love at its very best! It is not a family love, friendship love or romantic love. It is a self-sacrificing love that comes from God.
Rarely is a human capable of such a deep love. It is the love God has for each one of us. It is a love that sent Jesus, God’s Son, to the cross to die for our sins.
Do you know anyon...Read Full Post »

Christians around the world read the Bible. Why?
Because it is God's very words to us. In 2 Tim. 3:16 we read that the Bible is "God-breathed" which means the writers were inspired by God. It is a book filled with historical facts, scientific accuracy, fulfilled prophecy and infinite wisdom. Only God ...Read Full Post »

New Christians often wonder how to pray. They are nervous about it and wonder how to do it correctly… Only there is no “special formula” or “right way” to pray.
The most important thing when praying, is to do it from your heart. It should be an open and sincere communication with God. There are no special words to use. There...Read Full Post »

Simply put, grace is God’s unmerited favour towards man.
Grace is the foundation of God’s relationship with man. It is the most important concept in the Bible. It encompasses God’s amazing love and mercy for a sinfully rebellious mankind. The only religion with grace is Christianity.
C.S. Lewis said, “To be a Chris...Read Full Post »

Imagine the depth of love you have for the closest person in your life and multiply it by infinity! That’s God’s love for mankind. There is simply no comparison… ever! God’s love for each one of us individually is beyond what we can even fathom.

Did you know that Christianity is the only fact-based religion in existence? I kid you not!
That’s right… All other religions do not have historical evidence to support their beliefs. Much of the Old Testament of the Bible still exists today in its original scroll format. The Dead Sea Scrolls are over 2000 years old. It is mind boggling that they are still...Read Full Post »

A recent survey revealed vast and differing answers to the question of the church's relevance for society today.
Some hold to the value of the Bible's historical and prophetic credibility and even endurance through time. Others admit that most people today no longer want our Christian heritage to be upheld because it is seen as outdated and of no value.
