LIVING IN THE LIGHT OF ETERNITY

Posted on November 27, 2018 at 1:35 AM

Rick Warren has said, “When you live in the light of eternity, trouble just doesn’t bother you as much anymore!”

The Bible clearly teaches that we will face many trials. God knows that it is in trials that our faith and character grow.

The trials of life are inevitable but discouragement with the trials is not. How we respond to trials is solely up to us. It is our perspective on trials that is crucial. This involves having an understanding of their purpose and viewing them in the light of eternity.

We need to have a heavenly perspective, to live in the light of eternity.

A heavenly perspective is a mind-focus. We are told in Colossians 3, to keep our mind and spirit focused on our eternal home with Jesus. The benefit is more peace and less stress. More joy and less despair.

Col. 3:1-2  says, "Since you were raised from the dead with Christ, aim at what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Think only about the things in heaven, not the things on earth."

A heavenly perspective involves reflection. When the troubles of this world cause discouragement and despair, it is time to ponder the life and death and resurrection of Jesus. There we will find hope.

Heb. 12:2 says, " Let us look only to Jesus, the One who began our faith and who makes it perfect. He suffered death on the cross. But he accepted the shame as if it were nothing because of the joy that God put before him. And now he is sitting at the right side of God’s throne."

A heavenly perspective requires faith. Faith is fundamental in our relationship with Jesus. It is a faith that is rewarded with an eternity in heaven. And it is a faith that gives us peace and courage to persevere while here on earth.

2 Cor. 4:18 says, " We set our eyes not on what we see but on what we cannot see. What we see will last only a short time, but what we cannot see will last forever."

Only when we focus on the Prize – eternal life with Jesus – are we living in the light of eternity!
